MICHAEL R. LISS
Michael R. Liss is a business and franchise attorney working
to help businesses start and succeed. He is a frequent instructor at area
colleges and author of numerous articles on buying a business, franchising,
financing, and the legal issues which business owners must know.
Mr. Liss is a senior partner in the business law firm of
Edwards, Liss & Murray. He is a graduate of the Loyola University of Chicago
School of Law (Class of 1980) with an emphasis on business planning and the tax
aspects of business transactions. For his undergraduate education, he attended
the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and received his B.A. in 1977.
Mr. Liss is a lifelong resident of the Chicago area; he grew up in Lake County
and currently resides in DuPage County with his wife and two children. During
his legal career for the past 23 years, he has concentrated solely on the
business and franchise law issues of startup and ongoing businesses and their
entrepreneurial owners. Franchising has been one of the fastest growing areas
for business development. Mr. Liss is one of the foremost franchise law
authorities in the U.S.
Mr. Liss has served as General Counsel and private corporate counsel to
businesses throughout the U.S. and Canada. He is a member of the American Bar
Association Forum Committee on Franchising, the Illinois State Bar
Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association
Business Law Committee, the Midwest Business Brokers & Intermediaries
Association, the International Franchise Association, the American Franchisee
Association, the American Association of Franchisees and Dealers, and the State
of Illinois Attorney Generalís Franchise Advisory Board.
